Absolut Vodka works with Improvin’ to advance its sustainable wheat sourcing program.

Absolut Vodka has invested in a new sustainability performance platform developed by Improvin'. The platform uses AI and satellite data to make farmers’ reporting of primary data easier while streamlining the overall management of Absolut’s sustainable wheat sourcing program.

Absolut Vodka, Sweden’s largest food and beverage company, sources annually over 100,000 tons of winter wheat from more than 300 farms in Skåne, Sweden.

For over two decades, Absolut Vodka has been at the forefront of sustainable agriculture: they were the first in the industry to introduce a reward program for sustainable cultivation of winter wheat.

Since 2021, the program has been point-based, incentivizing Swedish farmers to adopt practices that mitigate climate impact, reduce nitrogen leakage and improve soil health and biodiversity.

Now, Absolut Vodka introduces a new AI-based platform designed to streamline farmer reporting and the overall management of the sustainable wheat program.

“When selecting the new platform, we prioritized user-friendliness for the farmers and a more streamlined reporting process overall. The platform’s automated data collection saves time for farmers and provides us with improved insights into how our wheat program and the farmers’ efforts perform in terms of sustainability”, says Karin Skoog, Manager Planning Production Distillery at Absolut Vodka.

The new sustainability performance platform will be introduced during 2024.

Karin summarizes: “Our ambition is for Absolut Vodka to be a carbon-neutral product by 2030. Achieving that requires accurate and rigorous analysis across our entire production chain, including our wheat sourcing. Our collaboration with Improvin’ will make that effort easier.”

Niklas Wallsargård, CEO of Improvin’, expresses excitement about the partnership: “We are delighted to collaborate with a frontrunner like Absolut Vodka who has been championing sustainable sourcing for decades. Few producers in Sweden have as much influence as Absolut, so starting this collaboration feels extremely motivating.”
